3D Car Configurator

Client

The client is a major car manufacturing brand and a pioneer in mass produced diesel engines. They are also the second largest car makers based in Europe. They have rendered radical improvements to revolutionize the automobile industry. Their continuous quest for technical excellence and innovations have helped them leave a mark of their own in the automobile sector.

Business Requirement

The client was planning to launch two new car models. The launch news had to be published in all media. For smartphone users, they needed iPhone and Android applications that can provide a visually rich and realistic demonstration of their new cars. This venture was part of their marketing strategy to reach a larger audience and lure them to purchase the new cars. The challenge was

Our Solution

After studying the client requirements in detail, QBurst provided a solution using Augmented Reality to address these challenges. The iPhone app was developed using OpenGL, Core Animation and Continuous Scroll, and the Android app was developed using OpenGL, J2ME and Android NDP to port FFmpeg.

Virtual three dimensional experience was created using 3D-Augmented Reality and OpenGL. Our designers used unique and innovative animation techniques to provide attractive and seamless transition from one view to another. We also integrated a ‘photo-sharing’ feature into the application to allow users share photos with a tap.

The apps show dealers close to user’s physical location. Location of dealers are shown on maps so that users can immediately contact them to get more information on cars. Users’ locations are identified using Core Location framework in iOS SDK and Location Services in Android SDK. The app displays a maximum of 50 dealers simultaneously and provides options to call dealers, visit their websites and email them.
